Robert Ardrey has developed the concept of territoriality to account for the environments that envelop different cultures. My own concept of technologies as the physical extensions of man is somewhat akin to Ardrey’s concept. However, it is easier to demonstrate the physical times and spaces created by radio or motor car than it is to explain why bird songs or physical odor should constitute a space boundary that might be regarded as impenetrable by other creatures.
