A dictionary of Marshall McLuhan’s quotations

This isn’t a tally of McLuhan’s favourite words, it’s a map of his recurring turns of phrase.

Alongside single words, the cloud surfaces two- and three-word expressions (tagged bigram and trigram in the Phrase List below), sized, so a phrase like “global village” or “extension of man” can stand as tall as any single word, rather than being drowned out by raw frequency.

Size here reflects recurrence and centrality, how much a word or phrase carries the shape of his thinking, not simply how often it appears.  The cloud is drawn from the quotations themselves only, not attributions or notes.

Every word is a point of entry.  Click any word or phrase to enter the mosaic!
