I have found in dealing with Laws of the Media that there are not three but four phases in the response to every technology: (a) enhancement or increase of activity, (b) the obsolescing or pushing aside of earlier activity, (c) the retrieval of some form of response that had been obsolesced much earlier, and finally (d) the flip into the opposite form when anything reaches its peak performance.
