The leapfrogging party, having no stake in the past, has a tremendous advantage in the 20th century. French Canadians, therefore, can be far more contemporary than English Canadians, and are automatically so in the arts and in daily life. They accept the 20th century naturally and with enthusiasm. The electronic age is congenial to such a retribalized group. It brings them so close together.
