The Pogo strip is staged midway between our inner and outer world, between the abysmal and strange domains of men and animal. It plays that domain off against one another, linking past and present, distant racial memories and current politics with an ease and freedom which are found only in the “verbivocalvisual” world of James Joyce’s Finnegans Wake.
