When the cinema and gramophone and radio and TV became new environmental services, the traditional book began to be read by a completely different kind of public. If Gutenberg created a new kind of human being with new perception and new outlook and new goals, the electric age of radio and video has perhaps restored a public with many of the oral habits of the pre-Gutenberg time.
