This split between "the physics of the Self and the Not-Self," as it is called by Wyndham Lewis in The Enemy of the Stars, helps to explain the differences between the early and later Wordsworth and Coleridge as well as the aesthetic quarrel which grew up between them. And it tells much of the story of the impressionists versus the expressionists or symbolists.
